An increasing number of people around the world are talking about how much blood the Bush administration has on its hands. So as unpleasant and ghoulish as it may sound, we decided to figure out how much blood has actually been spilled because of the war in Iraq. And we decided to figure it out in barrels. Actually, barrels of oil . . . Why barrels of oil? Because despite the numerous "reasons" we have heard from the "Bushies" about why we invaded Iraq (WMD, Freedom, Democracy, Liberty, the War on Terror, "keeping the terrorists over there," etc.), oil and personal financial gain sure seem to be the most likely reasons. With that in mind, we thought we would put the overwhelming scope of the death and devastation wrought by George W. and company in Iraq in graphic terms they (and the people that still support this awful war) could truly understand. But then again, maybe not . . . sadly, probably never . . . Here's how we calculate the BUSH ADMINISTRATION'S "BARRELS OF BLOOD" COUNT: The number of gallons of blood in the average human body (8 pints per gallon) = 1.25 The estimated number of gallons of blood lost by an injured person = .25 The number of gallons in a BARREL OF OIL = 42 (PLEASE NOTE: All numbers used in this calculation have been linked to their online source when possible.) Current Coalition injured = 42,793 Current Iraqi injured = 71,191 Total gallons of blood "SPILLED" = 215,644 |
![]() If all of these Barrels of Blood were lined up side by side, they would stretch for: 1.94 miles If they were stacked one on top of each other, they would reach: 2.80 miles in the air. If an equal percentage of America's population were killed in a war, 1,690,566 Americans would be dead now. Last Update - 5/25/2007 - 6:23 PM Eastern ![]()
